Spot container rates from Shanghai to Europe, the Mediterranean and the United States all increased since last Friday, according to the latest figures from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index.
The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) increased 11.1 percent from last Friday’s reading of 827.27 to a reading of 918.83.
The SCFI is an estimate of spot rates from Shanghai to 15 regions around the world, and is created by panelists from liner companies, shippers and freight forwarders.
Since last week, rates from Shanghai to Europe increased 15.1 percent, from $882 per TEU to $1,015 per TEU, while rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean rose 8.3 percent, from $878 per TEU to $951 per TEU.
Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast soared 26.2 percent since last week, from $1,092 per FEU to $1,378 per FEU, while rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast shot up 17 percent, from $2,013 per FEU to $2,356 per FEU.
