SCHENKER OPENS LOGISTICS CENTER IN VIENNA

   Schenker’s Austrian subsidiary, Schenker-BTL AG, has opened a logistics center in Vienna, Austria.

   The company has invested almost 10 million euro ($8.4 million) in the new facility.

   Schenker’s logistics center in Vienna will perform logistics tasks and value-added services, such as quality control, order picking, labeling and packing. The company said the facility will also be a freight distribution center for Austria and Eastern Europe.

   The 65,000-square-meter center is located beside the company’s existing freight forwarding terminal.

   Schenker said the software used in the logistics center permits warehouse management, material disposition and invoicing system based on the EAN 128 or EAN 13 bar-code system for different areas of industry.

   The new logistics center has created 28 additional jobs, eight of which are for office staff.
