SCHENKER TO OPEN AUTOMOBILE LOGISTICS CENTER FOR VOLKSWAGEN

SCHENKER TO OPEN AUTOMOBILE LOGISTICS CENTER FOR VOLKSWAGEN

Schenker Deutschland AG is building a new logistics management center at Hannover-Stocken to supply parts to the Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge AG plant in the port.

The 36,000-square-meter logistics center will replace several buildings nearby the plant. In the future, electric trucks will cross the port in Stocken on a 360-meter bridge with thousands of components, ranging from screws to shock absorbers. The Hannover plant assembles about 840 Transport (T4) and LTL light utility vehicles daily.

“The new solution, which was developed in close cooperation with VWN and the Municipal Port Authority, will make an immediate contribution to reducing traffic problems,” Schenker said.

The new Schenker facility, which is scheduled to open in mid-2002, will require the addition of 200 logistics specialists, mechanics, warehouse staff and forklift truck drivers to operate it, the company said.
