SCHNEIDER AGREES TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR FASTSHIP
Schneider National Inc., the intermodal transportation and logistics provider, has agreed in principle to provide intermodal, logistics and information technology support to FastShip Inc.
FastShip proposes a high-speed, door-to-door transatlantic ocean service, which would start in 2004.
Financing of the proposed ocean service is not part of the partnership, though a Schneider spokesman said the company is considering a financial commitment to FastShip.
Schneider, acting through logistics subsidiaries, would act as the North American third-party logistics provider for the FastShip service. Schneider would manage alliance partners, engineer a supply chain and exercise control over the North American inland transportation network, including truck, train and intermodal operations.
Schneider would also function as a transatlantic logistics partner for customers in North America and Europe.
Along with establishing an inland transportation network, Schneider would also develop an IT network that would provide services including shipment tracking and tracing, information management and reporting, route planning optimization and consolidated billing and payments.
