SEABOARD MARINE ESTABLISHES CANADIAN OFFICES
Miami-based Seaboard Marine has agreed to acquire the Toronto and Montreal offices of Bermar Shipping, its agent in Canada for 12 years. Seaboard will retain Bermar's existing staff as it takes over these offices on June 1.
'”Bermar has been an outstanding agent for Seaboard but we felt we needed a more focused presence, particularly with our recently announced vessel sharing agreement with Kent Line,” said Bruce Brecheisen, Seaboard Marine's chief financial officer.
Seaboard will make its first Canadian port call next month in St. Johns.
Bermar founder and President Jerry Bergeron will step down. “I have been seeking the opportunity to become more directly involved with my Miami warehouse operation,” he said.
Seaboard's Canadian affairs will be managed by Greg Gill, Bermar's current vice president of sales.
Seaboard Marine, a subsidiary of Seaboard Corp., has a fleet of over 25 roll-on/roll-off, lift-on/lift-off vessels that provide regular, fixed-day sailings to 21 countries in the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
