Seaspan takes delivery of 10,000-TEU containership

The independent containership owner and manager took delivery of the MOL Benefactor, which will operate between Asia and the Middle East.

   Seaspan Corp., a large owner of containerships that charters vessels to liner companies, has taken delivery of the 10,000-TEU containership MOL Benefactor.
   The vessel will commence an eight-year, fixed-rate time charter with Japanese ocean carrier Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL), Seaspan said in a statement.
   The MOL Benefactor, which was constructed at Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., is the last of five, 10,000-TEU SAVER design vessels charted by Seaspan to MOL and represents Seaspan’s ninth vessel chartered to MOL.
   Seaspan is now equipped with an operating fleet of 86 vessels.
   The MOL Benefactor will commence operations from Shanghai on Thursday to serve on the CMX service between Asia and the Middle East, according to MOL’s most recent online service schedules.
   The CMX loop operates with seven vessels with an average capacity of 8,826 TEUs and a rotation of Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sohar, Singapore, Nansha, Chiwan and Shanghai, according to BlueWater Reporting. APL, Hapag-Lloyd, MOL and OOCL provide vessels on the loop.
