The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation is scheduled to hold a vote today on President Obama’s nomination of T.F. Scott Darling III as the next administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Darling was named chief counsel in 2012 and has been serving as acting administrator of the FMSCA since August 2014 following the resignation of Anne Ferro. Although the title of acting administrator was technically removed under federal law in March, Darling has continued to work in the role.
Obama nominated Darling to the post officially in August 2015, and he underwent Senate confirmation hearings in January.
Prior to working for the federal trucking industry watchdog, Darling was deputy chief of staff and assistant general counsel for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority from 2009 to 2012, and environmental and land use counsel for the MBTA from 2005 to 2008.
If the Senate Commerce Committee confirms Darling’s nomination, the vote will be sent to the full Senate before Darling can be named administrator.
