CMA CGM launches a new logistics platform in Cameroon, Broekman Group becomes Broekman Logistics and Air Canada Cargo adds more capacity in Asia.
The CMA CGM Group inaugurated its new logistics platform, the 3CTC Terminal (CMA CGM Cameroon Container Terminal) in Douala, Cameroon, along with a group dedicated to inland transportation solutions development known as CMA CGM Inland Services (CCIS).
According to a statement from the ocean liner company, the new platform will offer a complete range of logistics solutions, including 1,200 square meters of secured storage space for full and/or empty containers and land transportation to Cameroon, Chad and Central African Republic.
Along with CCIS, the company opened a similar platform in Dakar, Senegal, last year, and has developed 14 terrestrial hubs, creating transport corridors between land locked and coastal countries.
Rodolphe Saadé, Vice Chairman of the CMA CGM Group, notes: “This inauguration shows our determination to reinforce our presence in Africa and to develop both our inland and logistics activities there. It also confirms our desire to become a major player in Cameroon’s economic growth”.
The Port of Rotterdam-based Broekman Group has changed its name to Broekman Logistics in order to emphasize the company’s “total focus” on logistics.
In addition to the name change, the company has restructured to focus on supply chain management. The new structure includes three distinct business units: Forwarding & Shipping, Warehousing & Distribution and Breakbulk Terminals.
Over the past few years, Broekman Logistics has evolved from a shipbroker to supply chain manager has succeeded in consolidating its position through specialization and internationalization.
The company said in a statement, “There will also be an even greater focus on three niche markets: logistics for the energy and offshore industry, for packed chemical products and for the truckmotive industry.”
Air Canada Cargo will start a new direct service between Vancouver and Osaka, Japan on May 1. The service will operate up to five times per week with a 767-300ER aircraft.
The airline will also upgrade its service to Seoul, South Korea with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on its Vancouver to Seoul route starting March 2.
Air Canada Cargo also announced the following future capacity increases, set to take place March 28:
- Hong Kong: Flight 015/016 YYZ – HKG – YYZ, aircraft upgauge to 777L.
- Tokyo Haneda: Flight 005/006 YYZ – SYD – YYZ, aircraft upgauge to 777W.
- Sydney: Flight 033/034 YYZ – SYD – YYZ, aircraft upgauge to 777L.
- Rome: YYZ – FCO – YYZ, start of seasonal service.
- Frankfurt: YOW – FRA – YOW, start of seasonal service.
