Service Announcements: Oman Air and Cargolux, Virgin Atlantic Cargo, HOYER and ClassNK

Oman Air and Cargolux sign joint venture agreement, HOYER adds to environmentally friendly vehicle fleet, Virgin Atlantic Cargo partners with Jan de Rijk Logistics, and ClassNK opens survey office in Spain.

Airfreight carriers Oman Air and Cargolux Airlines International SA have signed a jointed venture agreement to “create new opportunities for both companies in markets around the world,” according to a statement from the airlines.
Under the new agreement, Cargolux will have access to the belly capacity of Oman Air’s fleet and port facilities in Oman, while Oman Air will be able to further expand its cargo operation via Cargolux’s extensive service network.
The partnership will enable both airlines to jointly access new freighter destinations and contribute to the development of Oman’s logistics hub.

Hamburg-based logistics provider HOYER GmbH Internationale Fachspedition will add 34 new Iveco trucks to its Chemilog business unit fleet at a cost of approximately 2.6 million euros (U.S. $2.78 million).
The trucks feature extensive driver assistance systems, lane departure warning system, adaptive cruise control with integrated emergency brake function, an alertness assistant and sensor-operated fifth-wheel coupling, HOYER said in a statement. The new technology is aimed at reducing the number of rear-end collisions and unintentional lane changes.
The company is also currently testing a vehicle that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), also produced by Iveco.

Virgin Atlantic Cargo has tapped Jan de Rijk Logistics to handle road feeder delivery services in Europe. The three-year contract extends Virgin’s delivery network to more than 50 airports across the continent from North America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, the airline said in a statemet.
Virgin will be able to utilize next morning deliveries from the United Kingdom to its main airport hubs in Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Paris to offer customers additional destinations across mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
Jan de Rijk will be responsible for moving an estimated 50 percent of the airline’s cargo into Europe.

Classification society ClassNK has begun operations at its new exclusive survey office in Cadiz, a port city in southwestern Spain.
The Cadiz office joins five existing survey offices in Bilbao, Algeciras, Barcelona, Ferrol, and Las Palmas in Spain, and a global network of 131 total exclusive survey offices worldwide.
