The Chinese port handled 2.94 million TEUs of containerized cargo for the month, according to data from the Shanghai International Port (Group) Co.
Container volumes at the Port of Shanghai in January fell 7 percent to 2.94 million TEUs compared with the same 2015 period, according to data from the Shanghai International Port (Group) Co. (SIPG).
Combined freight volumes, including bulk, vehicle and general cargoes, dropped 11.4 percent year-over-year for the month to 41.16 million tons.
For the full year in 2015, Shanghai remained the busiest container port worldwide, posting an overall throughput of 36.54 million TEUs, up 3.5 percent from 35.29 million TEUs in 2014.
