SINOTRANS PICKS BNSF, NORFOLK SOUTHERN FOR U.S. SERVICE

Sinotrans Shipping Agency Inc. has signed separate agreements with Interdom Partners Ltd., an intermodal marketing company, and Class I railroads Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Norfolk Southern Railroad to provide intermodal services for Sinotrans Container Lines, the liner service division of a Chinese-government-owned conglomerate.

BNSF serves the U.S. West and Midwest, while NS operates in the eastern United States.

Interdom 'will act as an outsourced support function for Sinotrans. Interdom will track import shipments on a vessel, coordinating intermodal shipments to the correct train, drayage, rail billing, tracing and trouble shooting, as well as marketing empty containers for westbound repositioning,” said Richard Rudie, president and founder of Interdom Partners, based in Palos Heights, Ill.

Interdom, which began as an independent doublestack rail service for ocean carriers without intermodal departments, now provides intermodal services to 60 steamship lines, as well as to non-vessel-operating common carriers and freight forwarders.
