Six airlines consolidating flight ops at LaGuardia Airport

The transition is due in part to ongoing construction to renovate the 78-year-old airport, which is operated by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ).

 

   A total of six airlines – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines — are consolidating their operations LaGuardia Airport beginning Sat., Dec. 9 as part of major relocations of airline carriers caused by an ongoing modernization project.
   The transition is due in part to ongoing construction to renovate the 78-year-old airport, which is operated by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ), and specializes in short- and medium-haul cargo services, the airport said Dec. 6.
   Effective Dec. 9:
     • American will consolidate its operations – including American Shuttle – at Terminal B, ceasing its flights at Terminal C;
     • Delta will co-locate its LaGuardia operations in Terminals C and D by relocating its Delta Shuttle to Chicago and Washington, D.C. from Terminal A (the Marine Air Terminal) to Terminal C;
     • JetBlue and Alaska will move operations to Terminal A (Marine Air Terminal) from Terminal B;
     • And Frontier and Spirit also will move from Terminal B and begin operations at Terminal D.
   Over 7,500 tons of cargo and up to 1,000 tons of mail pass through the airport each year, according to statistics.
   The ongoing $8 billion redesign of LaGuardia Airport involves transforming it into a unified airport with new terminals. an improved roadway system, new parking infrastructure and other associated projects.
   According to state officials, private dollars will pay for about 75 percent of the cost for the new airport, which is expected to be completed by 2021.
