Six MSC containerships to get cargo system upgrades

The 16,000-TEU vessels will have MacGregor’s Cargo Boost system implemented during drydocking in 2020.

Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Company has signed a contract with MacGregor and Guangzhou Wenchong Dockyard to upgrade the cargo systems on six 16,000-TEU containerships it owns and operates.
The Cargo Boost orders will be booked into MacGregor’s second quarter 2019 order intake and will be implemented during drydocking in 2020, MacGregor said Wednesday in a press release. The parties have agreed to not disclose any further contractual details.
MacGregor, which is part of the Finnish cargo-handling machinery company Cargotec, and MSC worked together to develop the cargo system solution for the ships.
“The objective was to determine the best solution for the operating profile and deliver a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly upgraded cargo system,” said Magnus Sjöberg, MacGregor’s senior vice president of cargo handling and RoRo, in a statement.
