SWISSCARGO TO SERVE AS AGENT FOR CARGOLUX IN SWITZERLAND
Swisscargo, the air freight arm of SAir, will begin serving as the
exclusive general sales agent in Switzerland for Cargolux, Europe’s largest
all-cargo carrier.
This is the first time Swisscargo has acted as a general sales agent for
a partner cargo airline, Swisscargo said. SAir has held a 33.7 percent
interest in Cargolux for two years.
Besides joint network and flight planning, the partners hope to create
synergies in freight handling, technology and management.
Swissair operates a joint venture with forwarder Panalpina, to provide
time-definite, door-to-door deliveries worldwide. The agreement with
Cargolux would seem to be a strengthening of ties between the three
companies.
Earlier last week, Swisscargo also announced that it would market the
freight capacity of scheduled flights run by Italian airline Air Europe. It
marks the first time Swisscargo has marketed freight services on domestic
flights for a non-Swiss airline.
