With 7,000-10,000 trucks using the Calais-Dover route between France and England every day, a no-deal Brexit will hit haulage companies hard, says the IRU.
The International Road Transport Union has taken the lead in setting the global road transport agenda, which calls for greater cooperation between industry stakeholders and government bodies to ensure economic prosperity.
Though semi autonomous trucks would be a reality in a decade, IRU believes that it would not displace drivers from the trucking ecosystem but would only make their jobs more sophisticated.
A truck has moved freight from China to Poland in a record 13 days, via the TIR system, which requires road transport operators to only declare their data once when they are hauling goods across multiple borders.
The global snapshot survey is based on interview data from 450 transport companies across Europe, the GCC and Asia, and reveals a number of fascinating insights.
