Teamsters finalize labor deal with DHL
International Brotherhood of Teamsters workers at DHL Express ratified a new five-year contract on Thursday.
The collective bargaining agreement provides annual wage and benefit increases for about 10,000 unionized DHLdrivers, freight handlers, warehouse workers, clerical staff and call center representatives, and gives the express package delivery company additional flexibility on work rules.
The labor deal received support from 82 percent of the 7,000-plus workers who participated in the union vote.
Earlier this month, Teamsters workers at UPS Freight ratified a national labor agreement covering about 10,700 new members.
“Not only were we able to negotiate significant economic gains for members, this agreement provides job security by allowing DHL to better compete in this tough industry,” said Brad Slawson, co-chair of the Teamsters national negotiating committee.
DHL lost $900 million last year in the U.S. market.
