Toll forms new Nordics operation
Toll Global Forwarding, a division of Australia's Toll Group, has created a new Nordics operation, with the opening of offices in Aarhus, Copenhagen (headquarters) and Helsinki.
TGF also plans to open in Norway within the next few months, and to enter the neighboring Baltic. Currently, the new division employs 50, and head count will eventually reach some 150 to 175 staff, excluding warehouse personnel and drivers. TGF's existing operation in Sweden will be integrated into the Nordics network.
TGF has appointed Ole Moller Hansen and Michael Krogh to head its expansion in the Nordic countries and Baltic. Moller Hansen was formerly chief executive officer of Scan Global Logistics, and Krogh was its chief financial officer. At TGF, Moller Hansen will be managing director and Krogh becomes CFO of its Nordics division.
Toll Nordics will particularly target business to and from Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Within just a few weeks of its launch, Toll Nordics has already signed its first contracts with a number of large customers. The company has commenced operations using sub-contracted handling and trucking, but eventually these functions will be brought in house, TGF explained.
'We are entering the market aggressively, with strong and innovative products in both the sea- and airfreight segments, supported by a state of the art IT solution. We expect to be in the top seven or eight multi-modal forwarders here within two years,' Moller Hansen said.
TGF has expanded in Europe and the Middle East in recent years. The company acquired WT SeaAir and Genesis Forwarding in the United Kingdom, increasing its existing business ten-fold. It acquired Dubai-based LDS in 2009, adding substantially to its Middle East presence. The company is also stepping up its activities in Germany.
