CargoNet and AFN Logistics compiled a list of the top ten counties in the United States with the highest amount of reported cargo thefts between July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2016.
In order, the top 10 counties were:
• Los Angeles County, Calif.
• Dallas County, Texas
• San Bernardino County, Calif.
• Cook County (Chicago), Ill.
• Miami-Dade County, Fla.
• Harris County (Houston), Texas
• Tarrant County (Arlington/Fort Worth), Texas
• Middlesex County (Edison), N.J.
• Will County (Bolingbrook), Ill.
• Riverside County, Calif.
During this time period, the most common place for reported cargo theft incidents was at warehouses and distribution centers, followed by “other” theft locations, which included truck stops, the side of the road, carrier or terminal lots, drop lots, and ports of entry.
AFN Logistics is a third-party logistics and transportation management services provider based in Niles, Ill.
Jersey City, N.J.-based CargoNet, a Verisk Analytics business, was established in 2009 by the International Organization for Standardization and the National Insurance Crime Bureau as a as a national information-sharing system to combat cargo theft.
