Toys“R”Us, Inc. has opened a new logistics hub in Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry, France to support the company’s rapidly expanding e-commerce business throughout the country and Europe.
Located about 29 miles outside of Paris, the new 51,000-square-meter (550,000-square-foot) campus combined three previously existing fulfillment facilities with a new headquarters for Toys“R”Us, France, according to a statement from the Wayne, N.J.-based toy retailer. It features an automated conveyor system to increase storage capacity, more than 20 receiving areas, nearly 60 shipping docks and services up to 80 trucks per day.
Developed by IDI Gazeley (Brookfield Logistics Properties), the distribution center will serve the company’s e-commerce operations and 48 store locations in France, as well as expedite online order fulfillment for customers in Belgium, Luxembourg and Monaco.
Once fully operational, the new logistics campus is expected to employ approximately 350 full- and part-time employees during peak holiday season.
“Integrating our three previous fulfillment centers in France into one central logistics hub creates greater operational efficiencies for our business, while allowing us to better serve our customers through our growing omni-channel capabilities in Europe,” Antonio Urcelay, CEO of Toys“R”Us, Inc., said in a statement. “The Saint-Fargeau Logistics Campus provides us with a single point of distribution from which to ensure the hottest toys and baby products are always available for consumers, whenever, wherever and however they choose to shop with us.”
