Transatlantic trade showing ‘remarkable stability’

Drewry says spot freight rates between Europe and North America helped by high utilization.

Transatlantic trade “in both directions, has shown remarkable stability over the past 12 months,” says an article in the current issue of Drewry Container Insight Weekly. “There is little to suggest the balance between supply and demand will not continue in the coming fourth quarter.”
According to the report, “High utilization levels and balanced supply of capacity has kept spot rates stable on east and westbound routes between North Europe and North America. Expectations that the import surge may begin to tail off will have only limited impact on rates if capacity remains well balanced.”
