The inland Oklahoma multi-modal shipping complex handled a total of 1,325,816 tons of barge cargo for the month, according to recent data from the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority.
The Tulsa Port of Catoosa’s cumulative barge tonnage for the month of June was 1,325,816 tons, marking a 24 percent increase over last year’s numbers, according to port data.
Managed and operated by the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority, the Tulsa Port of Catoosa is a combination multi-modal shipping complex and 2,000-acre industrial park.
To handle the largest cargo transfers, the Oklahoma inland river port operates a roll-on/roll-off, low water wharf. This public dock can handle nearly any size, over-dimensional, or overweight project cargo.
“If you’ve ever seen cargo and thought it was too big or too heavy for the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, think again,” Tulsa Port Authority Board Chair Chip McElroy said. “If you use our Ro/Ro (roll-on/roll-off), there are no restrictions on size or weight. If the barge can carry it, this is your ticket to ride.”
The low water wharf has been used for single cargo pieces exceeding 600 tons, according to the port. These types of loads can be driven directly onto and off flat-deck barges using rail cars, trucks or wheeled transporters.
“Our low water wharf helps so many of our clients achieve their shipping needs where there are no other options,” McElroy said. “We haul refinery equipment, generators, heavy wall vessels, industrial heating machinery, large vehicles and more over our mega wharf.”
Plans for a Low Water Wharf Rehabilitation Project were also recently approved by the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority Board. The rehab project is expected to replace over 14,000 square feet of new concrete pavement on the wharf area. Construction is already underway and is expected to be complete within months, according to the port.
