Two XPO Logistics employees were killed in an incident at the trucking and third-party logistics provider’s facility in Lockport, N.Y., according to an account from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department.
Christopher J. Klosin, 38, of Barker, N.Y., and Roger A. Mangine, 62, of Newfane, N.Y., were unloading a truck early Monday morning when 11 800-pound slabs of Corian, a solid surface material used primarily to make countertops and benchtops, collapsed, crushing them.
The incident was reported to the Niagara County Sheriff at 1:26 a.m., but both Cousin and Mangine were pronounced dead upon arrival of first responders with the police and fire department.
An XPO spokesperson told American Shipper, “We’re saddened to report that a tragic accident occurred this morning at our facility in Lockport, N.Y., that resulted in the death of two of our colleagues. We’re working with our safety team and local law enforcement to understand the circumstances under which this tragedy occurred. Our deepest sympathies are with their families and our Lockport team members.”
The incident is under investigation.
