U.K. WILL REQUIRE AGENTS TO COMPILE MARITIME STATISTICS
The British Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions
will require every shipping line and shipping agent in the United Kingdom to provide it
with maritime statistics from Jan. 1, 2000.
The U.K. regulation follows the adoption of European Commission Council
Directive 95/64/EC of December 1995 on statistical returns in respect of carriage of goods
and passengers by sea.
Trials of the new statistics collection system start in the U.K. on
July 5.
