U.S. considers Persian Gulf airline subsidy claims

Transportation, Commerce and State departments will review comments alleging sudsidies for Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways

The U.S. Commerce, State, and Transportation departments will review claims that three foreign airlines – Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways – have received or are benefiting from subsidies from the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, which are “distorting the global aviation market.”
“The U.S. government takes seriously the concerns raised…and is interested in receiving insights and feedback from stakeholders before any decisions are made regarding what action, if any, should be taken,” the departments said in a joint statement.
In response to the subsidy allegations, the departments have set up an open forum through which any interested stakeholder may submit their views and have access to the information submitted by others.
The departments plan to start reviewing the filed comments at the end of May.
