U.S. installs radiation equipment at Aqaba
The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration has installed radiation detection equipment at Jordan’s Port of Aqaba.
The equipment, which scans loaded ocean containers moving through the terminal for the presence of potentially dangerous nuclear and other radioactive materials, was installed as part of NNSA’s Megaports Initiative in partnership with the Jordan Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The United States and Jordan will install radiation detection equipment at additional points of entry in the Middle East country.
NNSA has now equipped more than one-third of its goal of 100 large seaports worldwide.
