U.S. MARAD ESTABLISHES NATIONAL MARINE TRANSPORT ADVISORY COUNCIL
The U.S. Maritime Administration has established a new marine transport
advisory council, which will comprise up to 30 state and local public entities and private
sector organizations representing the U.S. maritime industry.
The council will advise the Secretary of Transportation on matters relating
to waterways, ports and their intermodal connections. The council will also consider
matters relating to current and future marine transportation system needs, including a
system that improves global competitiveness and U.S. national security.
The private sector members will be designated by Transportation Secretary
Rodney Slater, and such organizations will represent "a cross section of diverse
components."
At least two meetings will be held annually.
