U.S. TREASURY EASES RULES FOR IRANIAN FOOD, CARPET IMPORTS
The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has eased its rules for importing certain Iranian-origin foods and carpets.
The changes follow an announcement made by Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright on March 17, that economic sanctions against Iran would be eased to allow Americans to buy and import certain Iranian carpets and foods, such as nuts, dried fruits and caviar.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control responded by amending its Iranian Transactions Regulations to allow, by general licenses, the importation of certain types of these items from Iran.
