Under Armour reveals plans for new e-commerce distribution center

The sports apparel maker said it plans to open a 1.3 million-square-foot distribution and warehouse facility at Sparrows Point in Baltimore County as part of the Tradepoint Atlantic redevelopment project.

Under Armour this week announced its plan to open a 1.3 million-square-foot distribution and warehouse facility at Sparrows Point in Baltimore County, enhancing its product distribution to its expanding consumer base through its e-commerce business.
The Sparrows Point distribution house, which is expected to open in the summer of 2018, is a collaboration with state and local officials to employ about 1,000 employees in the Baltimore area once the facility is operating at its full capacity.
The new facility will be Under Armour’s fourth distribution facility in the U.S. and the second in the surrounding area of the company’s headquarters in Baltimore. The other Maryland facility is located in Curtis Bay and will continue to operate, along with Under Armour’s facilities in Rialto, Calif. and Mount Juliet, Tenn.
“As a pivotal new tenant at Tradepoint Atlantic, Under Armour will play a big part in this site’s resurgence to a center of economic activity and trade,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said.
Tradepoint Atlantic is a 3,100-acre multimodal industrial complex on Sparrows Point near the Port of Baltimore on the grounds of the former Bethlehem Steel Mill. Pasha began leasing 21 acres at the complex over the summer for receiving and processing automobiles. Other tenants at Tradepoint Atlantic include FedEx Ground, Pacorini Metals and Lafarge Holcim, which has a cement plant on the property and uses slag imported through the terminal.
