Unicon Logistics sets up U.S. NVO, appoints Ferrulli president

Unicon, a subsidiary of Dubai-based Simatech, will operate its U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles.

   Unicon Logistics, a subsidiary of Dubai-based Simatech, has established a non-vessel-operating common carrier operation in the United States and selected longtime industry veteran Gary Ferrulli as its president. 
   Unicon’s U.S. headquarters will be located in Los Angeles, with plans to open offices in the New York/New Jersey area later this year, followed by additional openings in the Southeast, Gulf, Midwest and U.S. West Coast. 
   Amir Maghami, Unicon’s chief executive officer, said expanding Unicon’s NVO presence in North America “supports our existing customer base, as well as allowing us to develop new business in one of the world’s largest market.”
   The Simatech group of businesses operates more than 30 vessels in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia trades as a feeder carrier for many of the world’s largest container shipping companies. The carrier will take delivery of two new purpose-built 4,250-TEU vessels later this year, with an option for two more identical vessels.
   Simatech also operates terminals in several countries, as well as providing maritime agency services in numerous locations.
