UNION PACIFIC SEES CONTINUED GROWTH

   Union Pacific Corp. said first-quarter net income rose 43 percent to $185 million.

   Excluding Overnite, the less-than-truckload subsidiary, UP reported a 28-percent increase in first-quarter operating income to a record $451 million. Commodity revenue increased 5 percent to a record $2.5 billion for the quarter. The automotive business group rose 15 percent; intermodal rose 14 percent; and the industrial products business group rose 10 percent.

   Revenue rose 6 percent to $2.91 billion.

   Operating ratio fell to a record 82.9 percent, down 2.9 percentage points from the year-earlier quarter.
