UNITED AIRLINES CARGO INCREASES SECURITY MEASURES; FEES

United Cargo, a division of United Airlines, said it plans to implement additional security measures, which comply or exceed Federal Aviation Administration Security Directives, United said in a statement.

The company also will implement a “freight processing fee” to cover the increased handling procedures, effective Oct. 15. The fee will be 3 cents a pound for domestic and U.S./Canada shipments and 10 cents per kilogram for international shipments.

The additional security measures for all shipments include verification against manifest, screening procedures, as well as verification and recording of delivery personnel identification.

Consistent with FAA policies, United announced changes on accepting freight from “known shippers.” All shippers will be subject to stricter qualification requirements.

“We will continue to work closely with our customers, providing high service levels, while ensuring the safety and security of our operations, said Roger Gibson, vice president, United Cargo.
