UNITED TO LAUNCH SERVICE TO BEIJING AND SHANGHAI
United Airlines said it will launch nonstop passenger service from San
Francisco to Beijing in June and from Chicago to Shanghai in April 2001.
United has also applied to U. S. transportation authorities for two
additional frequencies between San Francisco and Shanghai. That would give the carrier
daily service on that route. The airline announced earlier this year that it will begin
operating five weekly flights between San Francisco and Shanghai in April.
United will operate the new China routes with B747-400 passenger planes,
offering shippers considerable lower-deck freight capacity.
The new China routes were awarded to United under a liberalized aviation
accord signed by Chinese and U.S. regulators in April.
