UP enhances Chicago intermodal services

Union Pacific has increased service levels for its “premium” intermodal offerings to Chicago beginning in Portland and Northern California.
According to a press release, officials made the change because of “growing needs for truck-competitive service between western U.S. markets and Chicago.”
The Portland service operates five times each week to Chicago, with six return trips. From Northern California, the intermodal service will make between five and seven trips to Chicago each week.
The railroad recently started strengthening its infrastructure in the middle of the country. The $11 million project, which will be complete by the end of August, includes replacing track and switches, and renewing crossing surfaces near Eau Claire, Wisc., and between Black River Falls and Wyeville, Wisc.
