UPS centralizes Canadian offices
UPS Supply Chain Solutions has started construction of a 800,000-square-foot logistics campus in Burlington, Ontario, that will become its Canadian headquarters.
The campus will include two buildings, a 550,000-square-foot distribution center designed to cater to consumer goods and high-tech businesses as well as a health care facility geared towards the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
The site will have “super flat finished floors” enabling UPS to use its radio-frequency and warehouse management system to pick orders at heights of up to 30 feet. The campus will initially have more than 115 loading doors with space for an additional 35.
UPS said there is space for another 350,000-square-foot building on an adjacent 9.6-acre site.
UPS expects the campus to be completed during the first quarter of 2006, when several smaller offices and distribution facilities in the Toronto area will be closed.
“By centralizing logistics capabilities into the new multiclient campus, UPS will streamline the supply chain for our customers to provide greater efficiencies and cost savings for both intra-Canada and cross-border distribution,” said Brad Mitchell, UPS’ managing director for Canada.
