UPS invests $300m in Louisville package facility

The Atlanta, Ga.-based parcel giant launched a $300 million expansion that will increase the size of its Centennial package facility in Louisville, Ky. to 838,000 square feet and nearly double the current sorting capacity to 85,000 packages an hour.

The parcel giant UPS has started a $300 million expansion that promises to triple the size of its Centennial package facility in Louisville, Ky.
The expansion will increase the facility’s size to 838,000 square feet and nearly double the current sorting capacity to 85,000 packages an hour. Construction will take place in three phases and continue through 2020, UPS said.
The Centennial hub, which was built in 2007, provides pick-up and delivery services to customers in Louisville and surrounding counties, and serves as a transfer point for trailers moving to destinations beyond Kentucky. With its proximity to UPS Worldport air hub at Louisville International Airport, it also supports “end-of-runway express service” by allowing packages to be placed into the Worldport’s air operations as late as 1:30 a.m., the company explained.
