UPS to expand facility in Herne, Germany

Once UPS’s package sorting and delivery facility in Herne is upgraded, it will have an operating area of 25,000 square meters and a package sorting capacity of over 36,000 pieces per hour.

UPS is expanding its package sorting and delivery facility in Herne, Germany, which will more than double the hub’s operating area and sorting capacity, the shipping and logistics provider said.
The $80 million expansion project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
Once the project is completed, the site will have an operating area of 25,000 square meters and a package sorting capacity of over 36,000 pieces per hour.
The upgraded site will feature 130 unloading bays for containers, nearly double its current amount, and 180 spots for UPS delivery trucks.
UPS’s hub in Herne currently employs 1,100 people and the expansion is expected to generate up to 300 additional jobs once the new capacity is fully utilized.
