USPS EXPEDITED SERVICE GOES ONLINE

The U.S. Postal Service's expedited international delivery service, Global Express Guaranteed (http://www.usps.com/gxg), went online April 1.

USPS's date-certain service, offered through an alliance with DHL Worldwide Express, is available to more than 200 countries from about 20,000 retail locations nationwide.

The online option 'will allow shippers to check destination countries, learn the delivery commitment, be advised of any restrictions, calculate the postage and print the shipping label,' USPS said. The site also has links for customers to learn more about customs fees and foreign postal codes.

The USPS plans to expand the site to include payment options.

'Introduction of this online service is building the foundation for a package shipping network that will include other international and domestic package services, with plans to offer customers the option to order pickup service online.'
