Vancouver port labor dispute nears resolution
The Waterfront Foremen Employers Association and the Vancouver, British Columbia chapter of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have reached a tentative settlement on a new contract that, if ratified, would eliminate the potential for a work stoppage at the Port of Vancouver, according to a news bulletin from Expeditors International.
Dock hands are working under a contract that expired last December.
The dispute has revolved around issues related to work hours, time off and retraining for laid off foremen as wage increases were agreed to earlier.
