VIKING FREIGHT, AMERICAN FREIGHTWAYS RAISE RATES
Viking Freight Inc. and American Freightways Inc., less-than-truckload subsidiaries of FedEx Corp., said Tuesday they will raise rates by 5.9 percent effective Aug. 6.
The rate increases will apply to the carriers' intra- and interstate traffic, including Canadian transborder and Mexico border shipments, as well as to minimum and accessorial charges. Various additional adjustments will be made to select lanes and services areas.
FedEx acquired Harrison, Ark.-based American Freightways in late 2000. The carrier provides service to 40 states. Viking Freight, based in San Jose, Calif. Serves 11 West Coast states, including Hawaii and Alaska. As units of FedEx Freight, the carriers blanket the United States, as well as provide international service to North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
