The cargo division of Virgin Atlantic reported a year-over-year increase of 33 percent in cargo that departed from Dubai in the first half of 2015.
Virgin Atlantic Cargo carried 2.4 million kilos (5.3 million pounds) of cargo from Dubai during the first half of 2015, a year-over-year increase of 33 percent, with strong increases seen in cargo destined for London and the United States, according to a statement from the airfreight carrier.
The airline attributed the strong growth to additional U.S. routes and frequencies, which included the launch of Virgin Atlantic’s new Atlanta route and an additional daily frequency to New York JFK. In addition, Virgin said traffic generated from U.S. port disruptions also contributed to the increase in volumes.
Virgin Atlantic Cargo operates with a fleet of five Boeing 787-9’s, 11 Airbus A340-600’s, 10 Airbus A330-300’s, 12 Boeing 747-400’s and five Boeing 777-300’s with a network that expands to over 350 destinations worldwide through its global interline and trucking partners.
