Volkswagen picks Exel to manage two German parts facilities
German automaker Volkswagen has contracted with Exel, a U.K.-based logistics services provider, to oversee two “genuine parts” facilities in the Kassel area of Germany.
Exel will operate a 45,000-square-meter facility in Waldau where the main activity will be handling bumpers for Volkswagen. Most of the bumpers will arrive by rail, and then be stored and picked for shipping either to a Volkswagen parts center or directly to wholesalers and distribution centers.
Under the new contract, Exel will also manage a 7,500-square-meter warehouse in Nordshausen for receiving and storage of specialist packaging materials required for repacking parts.
In addition, Exel will manage the transport of Volkswagen parts between 30 warehouses.
