Wabash offers reinforced tank for corrosive sulfuric acid

Wabash National Corp, will offer a new fiberglass reinforced plastic tank trailer designed to transport sulfuric acid in concentrations up to 98 percent.

Trucking equipment manufacturer Wabash National Corp. will offer chemical carriers and shippers a new Brenner fiberglass reinforced plastic tank trailer designed to transport sulfuric acid in concentrations of up to 98 percent.
“Sulfuric acid is one of the most common corrosives, yet historically has been a difficult product to transport,” the company said in a statement.
Previously, fiberglass reinforced plastic tank inner surfaces were only qualified to handle dilute sulfuric acid at concentrations below 93 percent.
“The unique ability to transport higher concentrations of sulfuric acid in a lightweight FRP tank trailer design provides a competitive alternative to traditional stainless steel tank trailers, allowing for increased payload and an extended asset lifecycle,” Wabash said.
Wabash developed the new trailer in partnership with Poly-Coat Systems in Liverpool, Texas. The companies have worked together for the past 12 years to develop tank trailers to transport various hazardous bulk liquids.
