Congressman Shuster says the legislation will help “prevent future project backlogs.”
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved H.R. 8, the Water Resources Development Act of 2018, Wednesday morning.
The bill was introduced Friday by T&I Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, R-Pa.
“It deauthorizes old projects to fully offset new authorizations, and it ensures that we maintain a right-sized Corps [of Engineers] portfolio by sunsetting new authorizations to prevent future project backlogs,” Shuster said Wednesday morning.
H.R. 8 now moves to the House floor for consideration.
The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) on Tuesday marked up its version of the bill, S.2800, America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018, approving it by a vote of 21-0.
The bill was introduced May 8 by Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chairman of the EPW Committee, and now moves to the Senate floor for approval.
