WDS acquires D.D. Jones

The logistics and supply chain solutions provider will retain the staff of D.D. Jones Transfer & Warehouse Co. and continue to operate its Chesapeake, Va. facility.

   World Distribution Services, a division of The World Group of Companies, will acquire D.D. Jones Transfer & Warehouse Co. and absorb the company’s warehousing and distribution operations in the Port of Virginia area. 
   According to a statement from the Cleveland-based WDS, World Distribution Services will retain the staff of the warehousing provider and continue to operate its facility in Chesapeake, Va. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
   Both companies have provided warehousing, distribution and transportation services to the Port of Virginia community for many years. D.D. Jones was founded in 1928 in Norfolk and has “a reputation for old-fashioned service, responsive communication and exceptional dependability,” WDS said in a statement.
   “We couldn’t be more excited to expand our presence through the relationship we have formed with D.D. Jones Transfer & Warehouse Company,” WDS Vice President John Morrow added.  “The addition of the D.D. Jones business and staff increases our capacity and capabilities locally and showcases the strategic expansion plans we have developed for WDS in 2015 and beyond.”
   World Distribution Services offers supply chain solutions from 13 warehousing locations across the United States, specializing in international and domestic warehousing and distribution, CFS deconsolidation, transportation and out-of-gauge services.  The company also operates seven Class I intermoda rail facilities that provide bulk agricultural transload services, specialized heavy and oversize transloading capabilities, and private intermodal rail service.
