The Cleveland, Ohio-based logistics solutions provider expanded its nationwide warehouse network with the opening of a 100,000-square-foot warehouse near the Port of Savannah.
World Distribution Services (WDS) expanded its warehouse network with the opening of a new facility near the port of Savannah, the company said.
The 100,000-square-foot facility features 12 dock doors, a 28-foot clear height, expansive trailer parking and easy access to all major freeways, WDS Vice President John Morrow said.
In addition, Morrow told American Shipper the facility provides local drayage services including heavyweight, hazmat and reefer services; and nationwide full-truckload services including dry van, flatbed, reefer and over-dimensional services.
The EDI capable warehouse management system also provides 24/7 real-time visibility to critical receiving, inventory, shipping and financial data.
“This strategic expansion demonstrates the commitment WDS has to offering shippers and freight forwarders a single source for logistics solutions using the interconnected warehousing network that WDS has built across the U.S.,” Morrow said.
In addition, Morrow noted the facility’s close proximity to the port allows for quick freight turnaround times, along with the ability to meet last minute export shipments.
“The Port of Savannah is centrally located to serve the U.S. Southeast – the fastest growing region in the nation,” Georgia Port Authority Executive Director Curtis Foltz said. “This is illustrated by the fact that 22 percent of the U.S. population and industry is best served by the Port of Savannah and 44 percent are within easy reach of the inland connectivity infrastructure. As cargo demands parallel the population growth of this region, efficient access to trade via Georgia’s ports will become even more vital.”
