Where’s my truck?

American Shipper’s latest webinar, “Supply Chain Reaction: The Real Impact of Visibility,” lays out how BASF teamed up with MacroPoint to develop a web-based system to track shipments.

   Customers want proactive suppliers. They want to know that a truck is going to be late before it’s late.
   During American Shipper’s free one-hour webinar, “Supply Chain Reaction: The Real Impact of Visibility,” we dive into a case study from BASF, a leading chemical company that overhauled its supply chain through a visibility initiative.
   The webinar lays out:
    • How visibility is a driver of efficiency;
    • How data sharing with customers and 3PLs has strengthened business relationships;
    • And why real-time visibility is an important part of an overall TMS solution.
   Expert panelists are William Wehrle, director of supply chain for BASF; David Bazzetta, a business adviser on process optimization for BASF/RGP; and Dan Cicerchi, vice president of Descartes MacroPoint. Moderator is Hayes Howard, CEO and publisher of American Shipper.
   “Late deliveries are something that’s pretty common in the bulk trucking industry,” Wehrle said. “What really bothers customers is if you don’t contact them in advance.”
   Wehrle said BASF was getting complaints from customers on a daily basis. “About four years ago, we finally decided to tackle this problem. … Why can’t we track our shipments? Why can’t we proactively notify our customers?”
   He said the question, “Where’s my truck?” was almost epidemic in the industry. BASF put together a project team to come up with a web-based system to answer that question.

“Lo and behold, [MacroPoint] had exactly what we were looking for,” Wehrle said.
