Schenker has begun building a new logistics center to house and distribute products for the global consumer goods company.
DB Schenker announced that development has begun on a new finished goods warehouse and distribution center for the WMF Group in Bergkamen, Germany.
The 40,000-square-meter facility, set to open in July 2015, will be developed by real estate partner Goodman and will bring jobs for 140 operational and commercial employees. The facility will accommodate a wide array of WMF products, primarily from the company’s manufacturing plants in Europe and Asia intended for specialist trade in northern Europe and overseas.
Schenker Deutschland AG will be responsible for both the design and operation of WMF’s logistics solutions, as well as services such as repacking, display construction and price labeling.
Dr. Clemens Wöhrle, president of operations at WMF Group, said of the collaboration, “We have been one of the leading premium manufacturers of cutlery, cooking and dining products and professional coffee machines for more than 160 years. We are delighted to have found a strong logistics partner in DB Schenker, who will help us to ensure we can supply our customers significantly more efficiently.”
Member of the Schenker Deutschland AG management board Dr. Thomas Böger echoed Wöhrle’s sentiment, adding, “We are very pleased that WMF has decided to work in close partnership with DB Schenker in these important logistics functions. Optimizing the multifaceted logistics tasks in Europe and along the global supply chain offers great potential for both companies.”
