WON REMOVES HIMSELF FROM ANERA OPT-OUT CASE
U.S. Federal Maritime Commissioner Del Won will not participate in any
further agency action involving possible fines of carriers who belonged to
the now-dormant Asia North America Eastbound Rate agreement.
Won conducted an investigation of ANERA carriers last August, and
determined that the carriers improperly opted out of several service
contracts during last year’s preholiday shipping season.
Though Won disputed carriers’ claims that he could not act impartially
in the case, he said he was removing himself "to preserve the integrity of
the commission’s process and to avoid any appearance of prejudice" raised
by his remarks in the press.
