WORK BEINGS ON SUGAR DISTRIBUTION FACILITY AT PORT OF BATON ROUGE
Louisiana Sugar Cane Products, Inc. has started construction on a new $5-million sugar storage and distribution facility at the Port of Baton Rouge.
The new facility, to be located on a seven-acre tract, will be able to store 80,000 tons of raw sugar in two connecting 40,000-ton warehouses and will feature a 900-foot conveyer system.
Funding for the project is through a cooperative effort of the state, with $2.5 million anticipated from the Capital Outlay Program; $2.2 million from the Louisiana Sugar Cane Products, Inc. and the port contributing $500,000 for use in general construction.
Construction on the facility should be completed by June.
