WTO WELCOMES U.S. CONGRESS MOVE ON CHINA TRADE RELATIONS
Mike Moore, director-general of the World Trade Organization, has welcomed the approval by the U.S. House of Representatives of permanent normal trade relations with China.
“This is a vital step in bringing China into the family of governments that make up the World Trade Organization,” Moore said.
On Wednesday night, the U.S. House of Representatives voted by 237 to 197 to grant permanent normal trade relations to China.
The move is seen as facilitating the accession of China to the WTO.
China recently reached a bilateral trade agreement with the European Union. Before joining the WTO, China must make similar agreement with several other countries, including Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico and Switzerland.
